Don’t Miss a Beat
Happy Birthday to Bgirl Shorty
The youngest Beat Freak turned 20 today. Happy Birthday Bgirl Shorty! Her latest work includes being featured in the Jonas Bros with Demi Lovato music video “Bounce.” It looks like Wardrobe borrowed some clothes from Bgirl Shorty’s closet. We recognize the green & white Nike Windrunner, Nappytabs Rock It tee and Skinny Jeans, Tokidoki’s Adios Spy knit top, Punkrose Funk Quilt sneaker, and WorldWhere’s Dunk Junk Hoodie. Find more WorldWhere at their online store, including the Boombox tee and Headphones tee seen on Bgirl Shorty and LindseyB.
Also, Pacific Rim announced a “Get Your Freak On” event October 27th at Level 3 in Hollywood, celebrating the birthdays of Angelica Alumia, Fanny Pak’s Glenda and Matt, and Bgirl Shorty. They are collecting canned goods for donation to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy.
If there is one thing that the Beat Freaks do better than dancing like Michael Jackson, it’s freestyling. To me, that is what made their ‘Freak the Dream’ performance so special. It’s about feeling the music and letting it take you over. Take a look back at some more freestyle moments from the Beat Freaks:

Don’t forget to tune in to watch the 2009 Fox Really Awards tonight at 10p/9c on the Fox Reality Channel. During the red carpet pre-show hosted by Lance Bass, the Beat Freaks picked up the Best Performance Award.
The Beat Freaks worked it on the red carpet with the help of Gasoline Glamour, an eccentric line of ‘disgustingly good’ jewelry, accessories, leather and shoes. Gasoline Glamour uses only Swarovski crystals to create fascinating yet twisted pieces accentuated with crosses, skulls, bones, bullets, and clown faces. The collection includes necklaces, rings, shirts, and shoes, as well as aviators, leather vests, handcuffs, eye patches, tiaras, and more. For anyone who wants to make a statement, check out the Gasoline Glamour online store. It’s guaranteed to make a lasting impression.

Random Updates
I’ve been busy trying to catch up with all the Beat Freaks events. There is a bunch of information I don’t want to leave out.
- the Beat Freaks were featured in the Sept/Oct 2009 issue of Liberating Style online magazine (pg 34-39), which includes an interview with Rino and Maryss
- Dancer Universe published an article on the Beat Freaks for their September issue, called ‘Freak the Dream.’ This is the same issue with Quest Crew on the cover. In Quest’s article, Ryan Conferido says, “[The Beat Freaks] were the main source of inspiration for us. We always felt like we were in direct comparison to them.”
- According to @Dance_SpiritMag’s tweets, be on the lookout for the Beat Freaks in an upcoming issue, “It’s not out yet! @theBeatFreaks will be on a cover of DS (and it looks amazing), but won’t be on newsstands for a little while.”
In other news:
- There are some great new looks from My Ninja!’s Fall 2009 collection. View their video teaser here or check out Part 1 of the lookbook here.
- Busog has a Beat Freaks collabo shirt coming out. From @busogmeansfull’s tweet, ”’@theBeatFreaks Collabo shirt on the “approval” table ! Stay tuned for news and images coming soon ! Worked hard on this, hope y’all like it!”
- Busog also has a collabo shirt with Shabba-Doo, a founding member of The Lockers and also known as “Ozone” in the movie “Breakin’.” Get schooled on your hip hop dance history from a true original, in the article “Through the Locking Glass” from Dancer Universe.

The awards show will air on Fox Reality channel on Saturday, October 17th at 10p/9c, which will include the red carpet show hosted by Lance Bass.
